History | Office of Computer Services
In 1975 (B.E. 2518)
Kasetsart University issued Order No. 1220/2518, dated December 23, 1975, appointing a working committee to prepare for the establishment of the Kasetsart University Computer Center. The committee consisted of Mr. Teera Sutabutra, Mr. Nontawat Chanchareon, and Mr. Yanyong Boonlong. The committee was tasked with setting up the Computer Center as part of the Kasetsart University Research and Development Institute, with the purpose of providing computer services to students, faculty members, university staff, and departments within Kasetsart University. At that time, the center received support in the form of evaluation machinery and equipment from the World Bank loan project for the development of Kasetsart University.
In 1980 (B.E. 2523)
The Research and Development Institute restructured its internal management, resulting in the Kasetsart University Computer Center which had previously been a direct unit under the institute being reclassified as a sub-unit under the Research Services Division. Its budget and personnel allocations continued to be drawn from the Research and Development Institute. By the 1983 fiscal year (October 1, 1982), a separate budget was allocated for the center under the General Administration Program (Bangkhen Campus). Although the center received increased funding, this change led to several challenges, particularly regarding personnel. Salaries had to be disbursed by the original affiliated unit as specified by law, and it was not possible to request new staffing positions due to the lack of a legal framework supporting the center as an independent unit.
In 1982 (B.E. 2525)
At the 18th meeting of the Deans’ Council in 1982, held on October 18, 1982, a resolution was passed in principle to separate the computer operations from the Kasetsart University Research and Development Institute and establish a Computer Services Center with a status equivalent to a division, under the Office of the President.
In 1983 (B.E. 2526)
Recognizing the importance of information technology in advancing the university toward internationalization, Kasetsart University proposed the establishment of the Office of Computer Services to the University Council at its 6th meeting of 1983, held on December 12, 1983. The Council approved the establishment of the Office of Computer Services, initially as a project under the supervision of the Office of the President, with plans to later elevate its status to that of a faculty-level unit.
1985 (B.E. 2528)
The Office of Computer Services was officially elevated to a faculty-level unit on January 25, 1985, as announced in the Royal Thai Government Gazette (Special Issue, Volume 102, Part 13, dated February 1, 1985).
1989 (B.E. 2532)
The University Administration approved the internal restructuring of the Office of Computer Services into four divisions (document no. ทม 0202/25476, dated September 22, 1989), namely:
Administration and General Affairs Division
Academic Division
Operations Division

The Office of Computer Services has regularly conducted reviews and adjustments to its administrative structure to ensure continued appropriateness and efficiency.
